Dear Stylist,
"I want my hair to grow much longer. I avoid getting my haircut so it can keep growing, but I feel like it has gotten to the current length and just stopped! Why isn’t my hair growing?"
Dear Reader,
Hair goes through many stages of growth, but never truly “stops” growing. The average hair growth a month is a half an inch. Everyone is different and some people have hair that grows faster, while others have hair that grows much slower. That all depends on many factors, such as age, race, hair type, genetics, and more.
Our hair goes through many stressors every day. Such as environmental factors, heat damage from styling tools, mineral buildup from hard water and so on. We all know hair grows from the scalp, but breakage from all those stressors happens on the ends. That is why it is recommended to get your hair trimmed every 8-12 weeks, so your ends can stay healthy and strong.
All our stylists at Color Me Studio in Northfield NJ are educated in different haircuts and styles. You can see photos of different styles we have done on our Instagram or Facebook page. Our team will find you great products to help your hair growth, too!
It may seem counterintuitive to cut your hair when you want to grow it, right? That’s not the case. Everyone experiences split ends, even with the best hair care. When your ends are damaged and split, the split continues to grow up the hair shaft, resulting in shorter strands and more breakage. You may notice your ends feel more dry and brittle, or they may not be as dense as the rest of your hair.
Getting frequent trims helps keep the length clean, healthy, and full. Once you get into the routine of getting your hair trimmed, you will start to notice that it is actually growing longer and stronger! You will finally be able to see the difference versus not cutting it at all.
So, don’t be nervous to go get that trim. Your hair will thank you for it and you will love the results in the long run!
